Displaced But Not Gone

Portland, Oregon – August 18, 2008

The national economic constriction has claimed a few companies and tossed good people on rough times. Each time we lose a customer to business failure it hurts, but we understand that our pain is nothing compared to our friends and associates displaced by the failure.

We know the sales and revenue will be replaced as orders flow to our other customers and the hole left by the lost company is quickly filled with its stronger competitors. We also hope that the best human talent moves to those competitors and finds new employment to keep our industry vibrant and strong.

Wealth and reward flows through our American economy with cold, cruel, efficiency and often with little regard to justice. It takes people to give small business a heart. With this in mind, we thank all our customers for our continued success and we keep our Rolodex open to those looking for work in this great industry. We are happy to help keep your connections alive.

Gango Sales Diversify

August 11, 2008 – Portland, Oregon

Gango Editions has enjoyed healthy sales growth among designers and framers over the past several months, despite the slowing economy. As a small business ourselves, we support the hard work and creativity of every entrepreneur that honors us with their business. Rather than finding us in all the same old places this year, you will see us at more regional shows and on the road making personal connections. We are skipping the Decor Atlanta show, but look for Gango Editions as we make time to get closer to you. Already this year we’ve had a great time meeting all the new faces!

Traditional Design and Corporate Sales Win in Atlanta

Atlanta, GA - July 21, 2008

Traditional design dominated the look during the Gift Show at America's Mart in Atlanta, Georgia mid-July. Many exhibitors selected a fresh palette of pastels in addition to a fresher spice palette with citrus hues. Designers chose to expand their use of blues and combine them with neutral brown, warm gray, linen, unbleached white, blue-green, and yellow-green. Natural elements permeated most showrooms with the use of river stone, mineralized finish, bark, grass, leaves, and wood.

The lucrative Tuscan trend persisted in several showrooms at the Gift Show. Vendors have been reluctant to abandon this historically productive mega trend during lean times-many salespeople adopting a utilitarian approach to keep their buyers happy. Exhibitors at the Atlanta show displayed less contemporary art, perhaps due to regional taste. Desire for more regional selection was an emerging request heard at the show. Innovation of every type was of interest to companies seeking to build sales.

Walking the show, traffic was measurably down from previous years. All showrooms reported "to be holding their own" in the more competitive marketplace. Outside of the show, corporate and hospitality sales have been performing well. There was a noticeable difference between those who focus on the corporate and hospitality buyer versus those who focus on the retail buyer.

New Sales Building in a Tough Economy

While economists debate when the recession officially began, real business people like us have been managing on less for months now. Thankfully, we now see our business starting to improve. Like severe recessions in the past, this one will not last forever—most less than a year. This recovery may be long and slow, but we will be there to take advantage of the expanding market and be ready to serve our customers on the up-side. Our plan allows us to survive as long as necessary and remain flexible enough to grow when the time is right. We hope to share our success with our customers in the new opportunities ahead.

March Design Lab

Design Lab
March 7, 2008 – Portland, Oregon. Art Director Robbin Allen met in Portland and Phoenix to conduct the March Design Lab. As expected, metallics with a combination of neutral colors will continue to be strong elements in Gango's future line.

Throughout the lab, Allen worked with layering and complex textures - each of these playing a key roll in new designs. Looking ahead, nature inspiration will become more and more essential to our art. Gango Editions sees two important aspects of nature from which to draw inspiration: green-garden growth and mineral. Green-garden growth explores the beauty of the world, and mineral explores the core composition of the earth. Tropical leaves combined with metallics exemplify the blend of these ideas - nature's beauty and earth's composition.

Finally, Robbin is working with the exotic animal trend by fusing those forms with sophistication, layering, and textures to meet upscale customers' needs.

Art Director Works with Local Kids

January 26-27, 2008. Portland, Oregon. – Gango Editions hosts a weekend-long workshop with local teenage artists. The workshop explored the young artists’ natural talents and exposed them to the world of color and design. Robbin Allen, Art Director for Gango Editions, provided an industry insider perspective to the teens and illuminated a world in which their work holds tremendous value. Allen was able to ignite their imagination, drawing the connections between their creative energy and our economy’s need to produce and innovate. The workshops were well-attended by the students and created a demand for follow-up sessions two weeks later. Allen was supported in the workshop by the expert talents of Gango Editions artists Pam Desgrosellier and Greg Gorham.
The presence of working artists and honest collaboration among all participants made the event a truly spectacular moment.
